Seamless Gutters and Repair in Council Bluffs, IA 51501

From our downtown Omaha shop, Council Bluffs is just across the Missouri River. Its older houses on hillside streets and its loess soil make where the water goes as important as the gutter.

Quick answer

We install seamless gutters in Council Bluffs, repair leaking and sagging runs, replace hail-dented sections and fix downspout drainage that sends water toward basements or down a slope. Our crews cross the river from Omaha with the roll former on the truck. Call us and tell us what happens at your house in a hard rain.

Council Bluffs was known as Kanesville until about 1853, and its name goes back to a bluff where Lewis and Clark met with Otoe leaders in 1804. Later, President Lincoln named it the official starting point of the transcontinental railroad, a spot now marked by the Golden Spike Monument at 21st Street and 9th Avenue. It is the Pottawattamie County seat, with about 62,800 residents in 2020.

For us it is close work. Our main office is on South 13th Street in downtown Omaha, a short drive from the Iowa side, and the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge has linked the two riverfronts since 2008. The same crews that work Omaha neighborhoods handle Council Bluffs, so materials, coil colors and scheduling are the same on both sides of the river.

Old river-town houses and hillside lots

Council Bluffs has a large stock of older homes, from two-story houses with tall gables to modest bungalows and postwar ranches. The census puts the median owner home value around 171,800 dollars, and many owners here would rather repair a sound system than replace it. That works when the problem is a loose hanger, a dripping miter or a flat spot. When the fascia is rotted or the gutter is an old sectional run splitting at every joint, replacement makes more sense, and we will say which one you are looking at.

Part of the city climbs into the bluffs, so many lots slope sharply from front to back or side to side. Downspouts on the uphill side often discharge against the house, and on the downhill side the water picks up speed. We plan each outlet around the grade: extensions where the ground falls away, a buried drain line where it does not, and splash protection where water lands on bare soil.

Loess, hail and river weather

The bluffs are loess, a fine wind-blown silt carried out of the Missouri River valley after the last glaciers. It holds a steep face when dry but washes out quickly when concentrated water hits it. A downspout dumping on a slope can cut a gully in a season and wash soil away from a foundation corner, which is why discharge matters so much here.

Hail does not stop at the state line. On April 24, 2025, golf ball sized hail fell in Council Bluffs the same afternoon Ralston saw stones about 3 inches across. Thin aluminum gutters crease at the front face and downspout elbows flatten. We photograph that damage for your insurer and replace runs in heavier coil where you want more dent resistance.

Downspout Extensions

On hillside lots with loess soil, water needs to land well clear of the foundation. Nebraska Extension guidance of at least 5 feet is a good minimum, and on slopes we often carry it farther.

Underground Downspout Drains

Where an uphill downspout has nowhere to go, a buried solid PVC line with steady slope carries water to daylight downhill. Lines never tie into a sanitary sewer, and we call 811 first.

Hail Damage Gutter Replacement

After a storm crosses the river, we measure and photograph dents on gutters, downspouts and trim, give you those records for your insurer, and replace damaged runs when you are ready.

Gutter Repair

Many older systems here are worth saving. We reseal miters and end caps, swap loose spikes for hidden hangers, and rehang flat sections so water reaches the outlet.

Half-Round Gutters

Older two-story houses with period trim often look right with a half-round profile and round downspouts on decorative brackets, in aluminum, steel or copper.

Fascia Board Replacement

Years of overflow rot the boards behind old gutters. We probe for soft wood, replace it with sound stock, and wrap it in trim coil before the new gutter goes up.

Council Bluffs and the Iowa side of our area

Council Bluffs faces downtown Omaha across the Missouri, the longest river in the country at about 2,341 miles. Beyond the city, Pottawattamie County spreads east into the Loess Hills, and we also cover Glenwood to the south and Missouri Valley to the north. FAQ

Gutter questions from Council Bluffs

Do your Omaha crews actually work in Council Bluffs, Iowa?

Yes. Council Bluffs is a short drive across the river from our downtown Omaha office, and the same crews work both sides. We bring the roll former and form seamless runs at your house in the color you choose. Call us any hour, describe what the gutters are doing, and we will fit you into the schedule.

How do you handle downspouts on a steep Council Bluffs hillside lot?

We look at the grade around the whole house first. On the downhill side, extensions and splash protection keep water from cutting into the loess. On the uphill side, where water would pool against the foundation, we often run a buried PVC line around to daylight downhill. Each outlet is placed so water ends up away from both the house and any bare slope.

Is it worth repairing old gutters on a Council Bluffs house instead of replacing them?

Often it is. If the gutter metal is sound and the fascia is solid, resealing joints, adding hangers and correcting pitch can buy years of service. If the boards behind it are soft, the run is sectional and leaking at many joints, or hail has creased it badly, new seamless gutters are the better use of money. We show you photos either way.

What gutter damage did the April 2025 hail leave in Council Bluffs?

Storm reports show golf ball sized hail in Council Bluffs on April 24, 2025. Stones that size typically leave round dents along the gutter face, flatten downspout elbows and dent aluminum trim. If you have not had your gutters looked at since a storm like that, we can inspect and photograph the damage for your records.
