Quick answer
We repair and replace gutters across Nebraska City, from leaking corners and sagging runs on older homes to full tear-offs with new seamless aluminum. Our crews drive down from the Omaha office, check the fascia behind every run and hang new gutters on hidden hangers screwed into solid wood. Call us any hour to talk through what you are seeing.
Nebraska City dates to 1855, which makes it the oldest incorporated city in Nebraska. It grew on steamboat freight along the west bank of the Missouri River and is now the Otoe County seat, with 7,222 residents in the 2020 Census. The Mayhew Cabin here is recognized as the state's only Underground Railroad station.
The town is best known as the Home of Arbor Day. J. Sterling Morton's former mansion, Arbor Lodge, is now a state historical park, and the tree-planting habit he championed shows on almost every residential street. For gutters, that history means two things: houses old enough to have been re-guttered several times, and canopies big enough to fill those gutters fast.
A river town's older houses
The blocks climbing up from the river carry Victorian and early twentieth century houses with tall roofs, steep pitches and decorative trim at the eaves. Some still have built-in box gutters set into the cornice, and many more had those boxes covered or abandoned when hanging gutters were added later. When a hung gutter leaks on a house like that, the water often runs behind it into the old box and the trim below, so the rot is hidden until a board gives way under a ladder.
That is why our repair visits here start with the wood. We probe the fascia along each run, look at the soffit for stains and check whether the gutter was hung on spikes driven into the same holes several times. Where the boards are sound, a leak or sag is a straightforward fix. Where they are not, we replace the fascia first and then hang a seamless run, because a new gutter on soft wood is just next year's repair.
Arbor Day canopy and Missouri River weather
A town that celebrates planting trees ends up with gutters full of what those trees drop. Silver maple, widely planted in Nebraska towns, sends winged seeds into gutters by the bucketful each late spring and has brittle wood that breaks in storms. Oaks and other hardwoods add leaves in the fall, and older canopies over steep roofs make cleaning a job for someone with the right ladder setup.
Weather here follows the same pattern as the rest of eastern Nebraska. May is usually the wettest month, with June and August close behind, and the state ranked first nationally for hail risk in one 2025 analysis of NOAA and FEMA data. On a steep Victorian roof, a heavy June storm can send water over the front of an undersized gutter long before it reaches the downspout.

Repairs and replacements we handle here
Fascia Board Replacement
Old river-town houses often hide soft fascia behind their gutters. Replacing rotted boards before hanging new runs gives hangers solid wood to grip.

FAQ
Gutter questions from Nebraska City
My old Nebraska City house has a gutter set inside the roof trim. Can it be saved?
Usually, yes. That is a built-in box gutter, common on houses from the town's early years. If the wood frame is mostly sound, we reline it with a membrane or sheet metal liner and rebuild the outlet. If rot runs deep, we can rebuild the box or cap it and hang an exterior gutter instead. See box gutter repair for the options.
How do I know if the fascia behind my Nebraska City gutters is rotten?
Look for peeling paint in streaks below the gutter, dark stains on the soffit, gutters that pull away when pushed gently, or nails and spikes that have backed out. The surest test is probing the board with an awl, which we do on every repair visit. Rotted wood can be cut out and replaced the same day we hang new gutters.
Are half-round gutters a good fit for an Arbor Day era home?
On Victorian and early twentieth century houses they often look more at home than K-style, especially with round downspouts and visible brackets. They carry a bit less water than a K-style of the same width, so on steep, large roofs we may size up to a 6 inch half-round. Aluminum keeps the cost down; copper and steel are options too. See our price guide for ranges.
Do you drive down to Nebraska City for a small gutter repair?
Yes. A single leaking corner, a downspout knocked off by a mower or a short sagging run are all calls we take for Nebraska City. If we spot something bigger while we are there, like soft fascia or a gutter pitched backward, we show you photos and explain the choices before doing any extra work.
