Gutter Repair and Guards in Aksarben, Omaha, NE 68106
Aksarben's older blocks are full of compact postwar bungalows with short gutter runs, and on a small house every leaking corner and clogged outlet sits right above a door, a window well or the driveway.

Quick answer
In Aksarben we mostly repair what is already on the house: resealing corners and end caps, rehanging loose runs, replacing hail-dented sections and swapping out tired vinyl. Then we fit guards matched to the trees on your lot so the repaired system stays clear. Aksarben is part of Omaha and an easy drive from our downtown office. Call us to have a look.
The name is Nebraska spelled backward, and for most of the last century it meant the Ak-Sar-Ben horse racetrack. That ground is now Aksarben Village, a 60 acre mixed use development that broke ground in 2007 and opened its first buildings in the fall of 2008. Stinson Park sits in the middle, the UNO Aksarben campus anchors the north end and Baxter Arena holds the south.
The houses we work on are mostly in the older residential streets east of the old track. Those blocks filled in largely after World War II with modest two and three bedroom bungalows, and a few streets carry larger brick and stucco homes. Many of those gutters have been patched, painted, partly replaced and patched again, which is why repair leads this page.
Postwar bungalows and their patched-up gutters
A two bedroom bungalow might have only four gutter runs and two or three downspouts, so each one carries a big share of the roof. When one outlet clogs or one corner miter opens, there is no second path for the water. The same failures come up again and again on these houses: dried sealant at inside corners, end caps riveted long ago that now weep, and spike and ferrule hangers backing out of fascia that has gone soft.
Some owners swapped the original metal for snap-together vinyl from a home store at some point. Vinyl turns brittle in hard cold and can crack when ice or falling snow hits it, and the joints between pieces are where it leaks first. On a small house, trading that vinyl for one seamless aluminum run per side is usually a one day job. The brick and stucco homes on certain streets are a different case, since their taller walls and deeper roofs sometimes justify 6-inch gutters and 3x4 downspouts.
Hail, ice and midtown street trees
The afternoon of April 24, 2025 shows what this part of town faces. Hail about 3 inches across fell in Ralston, a short drive southwest, and golf ball sized stones hit parts of Omaha the same day. Aluminum gutters record hail as rows of round dents along the front face, and downspouts crease where stones strike the elbows. We photograph and measure that damage so you have a clear record for your insurer, then replace the runs too bent to drain properly.
Winter adds slower wear. Omaha January lows average around 14.5 degrees, and water left standing in a sagging run freezes and pushes seams apart from the inside. Mature street trees drop leaves, twigs and seeds into these short gutters, which fill faster than most owners expect. A guard matched to what actually lands on your roof keeps the repaired system from clogging again by the next storm.

Gutter Repair
Most Aksarben systems are worth fixing rather than replacing. We reseal miters and end caps, swap failed hangers, reattach loose downspouts and tell you plainly when a run is past the point where repair money makes sense.

Drips at inside corners and outlets usually trace back to old sealant. We clean each joint down to bare metal, re-rivet where needed and reseal it so it holds through freeze and thaw.

Snap-together vinyl cracks in hard Nebraska cold and leaks at every joint. Replacing it with seamless aluminum removes most of those joints and gives the hangers solid metal to grip.

Short runs under street trees clog quickly. We pick the guard by what falls on your roof, a rigid screen for broad leaves or fine mesh for seeds, and fit it so rain still enters freely.

After a hail storm we measure and photograph dents on gutters and downspouts for your records, then replace the runs that no longer drain. Working with the insurer stays in your hands.

Spikes backing out of soft fascia let the front edge drop and water run behind. We rehang the run on hidden hangers screwed into solid wood about every two feet and reset its slope.

FAQ
Gutter questions from Aksarben
Should I repair or replace the gutters on my Aksarben bungalow?
If the runs are aluminum, hold their shape and leak only at corners and outlets, repair is usually the better buy. Replacement makes more sense when the system is vinyl, sectional with leaks at every joint, dented along most of its length by hail, or hanging on fascia that needs work anyway. We look at every run, show you photos and price it both ways when the answer is close.
What kind of gutter guard makes sense on a small Aksarben house?
It depends on what lands on the roof. Broad leaves and twigs are handled well by a rigid perforated screen, which costs less. Winged seeds and cottonwood fluff call for fine stainless mesh. With only four short runs on a bungalow, guards cost less overall than on a large house, and they spare you a ladder climb above the front steps. Our micro-mesh guard page explains how mesh behaves in winter.
My gutters got dented in a spring hail storm. Do dents alone mean replacement?
Not always. Shallow dents on the face of an aluminum gutter are mostly cosmetic. Dents that deform the bottom, crush an outlet, flatten a downspout or change the slope so water stands are functional damage. We photograph the dents with a scale reference and note which runs still drain. Your insurer decides on coverage, and we give you the record plus a repair or replacement plan.
Why does water run behind the gutter over my Aksarben porch?
Usually there is a gap between the shingle edge and the back of the gutter, or the gutter has tipped forward as its hangers loosened. Rain then runs down the fascia instead of into the trough and soaks the porch ceiling. A strip of gutter apron tucked under the first shingle course closes the gap, and new hidden hangers pull the gutter tight to the board. Our drip edge page covers the retrofit.
