Seamless Gutters and Repair in Hastings, NE 68901

Hastings is the town our Juniata office sits next to, so these are close-to-home jobs. Open prairie wind, hard hail and long winters decide how a gutter here should be built.

Quick answer

Our Juniata office crew installs seamless gutters across Hastings and repairs the ones already on your house: loose runs, leaking corners, dented sections and downspouts that dump water against the foundation. We form each run on site from coil and hang it with hidden hangers into solid wood. Call us and describe what the gutters are doing in a storm.

Hastings grew out of a railroad decision. The tracks went down about seven miles east of Juniata, and the town that rose around them in 1872 took the name of Colonel D. T. Hastings of the St. Joseph and Grand Island Railroad. It went on to win the Adams County seat from Juniata in 1878, and today it counts a little over 25,000 people. Most folks know it as the place Edwin Perkins created Kool-Aid in 1927, still celebrated with Kool-Aid Days on the second weekend of August.

We serve Hastings from our Juniata office rather than from Omaha, which puts a crew, a roll former and stocked coil a few minutes from your street. That makes small jobs practical: a single sagging run, one corner that drips, a downspout knocked loose by a mower. It also means after a summer storm we are working locally, not driving across the state.

A railroad town's mix of houses

A town laid out in the 1870s has a core of older houses near downtown: two-stories with tall eaves, porches with their own small roofs, and some homes that still carry original wood fascia under layers of paint. Those boards are where we look first. When gutter spikes have been re-driven into the same holes for years, the wood around them goes soft, and a new gutter hung on rotten fascia will sag by the next winter.

Out from the center, ranch homes, split-levels and newer houses on bigger lots bring long, simple eaves and attached garages. They are easy to gutter well and easy to gutter poorly. The common faults we find are runs pitched flat or backward, a single downspout trying to drain sixty feet of roof, and outlets that empty straight onto a patio slab. Most of that gets corrected with a re-hang and an added downspout or two.

Wind, hail and freeze on open ground

Hastings sits on flat, open country with few windbreaks, so storm wind reaches the roof edge at full strength. Gutters hung with old spike and ferrule fasteners are the first to peel away, usually starting at a corner. Nebraska also leads the country for hail risk, with an average of 534 hail events a year in a recent NOAA and FEMA based analysis, and thin aluminum dents easily. On exposed houses here we often suggest .032 coil or steel gutters on the windward side.

Winters bring snow loads, and the state now sees more mid-winter warm spells of five days or longer above freezing. Each thaw sends meltwater into gutters that refreeze overnight, which loads the hangers and opens weak seams. Gutters that are pitched correctly and fastened every 2 feet handle that cycle far better than ones hung loosely years ago.

Most called jobs here

What we do most in Hastings

Gutter Repair

Many calls here are for one problem, not a whole system. Being based in Juniata lets us fix a loose corner, reseal a miter or rehang a run without waiting to combine it with a bigger job.

Seamless Gutter Installation

One-piece runs formed on site have no seams for prairie wind and freeze cycles to work loose. We set hidden hangers into the rafter tails and pitch each run toward outlets placed where the roof drains.

Steel Gutters

On open lots that take hail head on, Galvalume steel shrugs off dents that would crease thin aluminum. It weighs more, so we fasten it tighter and seal every cut edge against rust.

Storm Damage Gutter Repair

When wind tears a run loose, call us. We make it safe first, secure or remove what is hanging, then come back for a proper repair or new run once the storm has passed.

Fascia Board Replacement

Older Hastings houses often hide soft fascia behind the gutter. We probe the boards, cut out rot, replace with sound stock, and wrap it in aluminum trim coil before the new gutter goes up.

Downspout Extensions

Flat lots do not carry water away by themselves. Extending each downspout at least 5 feet from the foundation, as Nebraska Extension recommends, keeps roof water out of basements and crawlspaces.

FAQ

Gutter questions from Hastings

Is your Hastings crew local or do they come from Omaha?

Hastings jobs are handled from our Juniata office, which is a few miles west of town. The crew, truck and roll former are based there, so we are not making a long drive from Omaha for each visit. That helps with small repairs and with follow-up after a storm. Call us and we will tell you when the crew can be on your street.

Should a Hastings house on an open lot get steel gutters instead of aluminum?

It depends on how exposed the house is. Heavier .032 aluminum handles most homes fine. If your eaves face open fields and take hail head on, Galvalume steel resists denting better. Steel is heavier, rusts at cut edges if they are not sealed, and costs more, so many owners put it only on the side that takes the weather.

Why do the gutters on my older Hastings home keep pulling away at the corners?

Usually the fascia behind them has gone soft, so the fasteners have nothing solid to hold. Old spikes that were driven back in several times make it worse. Wind and ice then pry the corner loose first. We check the wood, replace what is rotten, and rehang the run with hidden hangers screwed into the rafter tails.

How often do Hastings gutters need cleaning?

Nebraska Extension recommends twice a year, and that fits most Hastings homes: once after the late spring seed drop and once after the leaves come down in fall. Houses with big cottonwoods or silver maples nearby may need a third look in early summer. Clogged gutters freeze solid faster in winter, which adds weight the hangers were not meant to carry.
