Quick answer
In Blair we install new seamless gutters, repair leaks, sags and storm damage, and move downspout water away from foundations on sloped lots. We also handle winter trouble like ice-bent gutters and split seams. Our crews drive up from the Omaha office for every job, and you can call us at any hour to set up a visit.
Blair was platted in 1869 when the Sioux City and Pacific Railroad arrived, and it took its name from railroad investor John Insley Blair. That same year it became the Washington County seat, after Fort Calhoun and DeSoto had each held the job. The town counted about 7,800 people in 2020, with a 2025 estimate just under 8,000.
A railroad town that became a county seat tends to have a mix of houses: older frame homes near downtown, postwar ranches spreading out from there, and newer construction on the edges. Each group brings its own gutter trouble, and on top of that, the EF4 tornado of April 2024 ended its 31-mile path at Blair.
Blair houses and their weak spots
The older two-story homes near the center of town often have tall eaves, steep roofs and gutters replaced piecemeal, so one side may be seamless while another is sectional and leaking. Fascia on these houses has usually been painted many times and may be soft behind the gutter where water has spilled over for years.
Ranches from the middle of the last century have long, low eaves and plain roofs. The usual issue there is age: spike hangers backing out, sagging runs that hold water, and downspouts emptying beside the foundation. On newer homes it is more often undersized downspouts on steep roofs. Targeted repairs solve some of this, while badly worn systems call for full replacement.
Slopes, river cottonwoods and northern winters
Much of Blair sits on rolling ground above the Missouri River bottoms, and on a sloped lot, water that leaves a downspout keeps moving. Pointed downhill toward the house next door or left to pool against your own uphill wall, it causes trouble either way. Placement and extensions matter more here than on flat suburban lots.
Cottonwoods line the river and the creeks around town, and their seed fluff mats gutters in late spring. Blair shares Omaha winters, where the weather service puts average snowfall at about 27 inches, and Nebraska now sees more winter warm spells than it used to. Meltwater from those thaws refreezes overnight in the trough, and that ice bends hangers and splits seams.

Our main Blair services
Gutter Repair
Leaking corners, loose runs and dripping outlets on older homes near downtown can often be fixed without replacing the whole system, which keeps the cost down on gutters that are still sound.

Patchwork systems with mixed sectional and seamless sides leak at every joint. One new seamless system around the house ends that and lets us see the fascia underneath.

On rolling Blair lots, extensions carry water past the backfill and in the right direction, so it drains away from your house and away from the neighbors too.

Wind and falling limbs pull gutters off houses in summer storms. We secure whatever is hanging first, then repair or replace the damaged runs properly.

Freeze and thaw cycles leave ice in the trough that bends hangers and opens seams. We repair the damage after the thaw without chipping at the metal.

Homes near the river and the creeks catch cottonwood fluff every spring. A guard chosen for that fine debris cuts down on clogged outlets and overflow.

FAQ
Gutter questions from Blair
Where should downspouts drain on a sloped lot in Blair?
To the low side of the lot, away from the foundation and not straight onto a neighbor's yard. On a hillside we often move a downspout to a different corner or run an extension along the slope so water reaches ground that already drains away. Nebraska Extension suggests at least 5 feet of discharge distance, and on steep lots we go further when needed.
Can mixed old and new gutters on a Blair house be joined into one system?
They can be patched together, but it rarely holds up for long. Different profiles and metals do not seal cleanly to each other, and the old sectional parts keep leaking at their joints. If more than one side is failing, replacing the whole house with matched seamless runs is usually the cleaner fix and lets the downspouts be planned as one system.
Did the 2024 tornado path affect gutters in Blair?
The EF4 tornado that started near Elkhorn on April 26, 2024 ended at Blair, and gutters on and near its path took wind and debris damage. Some homes were patched quickly with reused parts. If yours has dents, bent hangers or poor pitch since then, a gutter inspection will show whether it needs a repair or a fresh run.
What causes gutters to split at the seams in a Blair winter?
Water freezes in low spots or behind a clog, expands and pushes on corners and joints. Repeat that over several thaws and the sealant cracks or the seam opens. Sagging runs are the worst because water collects there. Correct pitch, clear outlets and solid hangers prevent most of it, and heat cables help on problem eaves.
