Hail, storm and winter
Hail Damage Gutter Replacement in Omaha, NE
After a hailstorm, the gutters often show the damage first: rows of round dents along the face, crushed downspout corners and seams knocked loose. Those marks are both a repair problem and a record of the storm.

Omaha, NebraskaQuick answer
Hail damage gutter replacement covers inspecting dented gutters and downspouts, documenting the dents with photos and measurements you can share with your insurer, and replacing the damaged runs with new seamless gutters. You need it when dents have split seams, flattened the profile or crushed downspouts, or when your adjuster has approved new gutters.
Aluminum gutters are soft enough to record every stone that hits them. A storm with half inch hail may leave faint pocks on the downspouts. A storm with golf ball hail can cave in the front face, crack the paint and pop end caps loose. Because the dents are so readable, adjusters often look at gutters and downspouts early when assessing a roof.
Our part is the gutter work and the record of it. We measure and photograph the damage, write down what we find, and give you that file to share with your insurer. Your claim stays between you and your insurance company, and we do not promise any outcome on it. Once you decide how to proceed, we schedule the replacement and haul away the old metal.
What hail does to aluminum gutters
The front face of a K-style gutter takes most of the hits. Small hail leaves shallow round dents that are mostly cosmetic. Larger stones flatten the ogee curve, crease the bottom edge and can pull the gutter off its hangers when they hit the back of the trough at an angle.
Downspouts usually show damage before gutters do, because their thin flat faces dent easily and sit at a height where hail strikes them square. Elbows can crack at the crimp. Inside the trough, dents along the bottom create low spots that hold water and grit after the storm passes.

- Flattened or creased profile along the bottom edge
- Chipped or crazed paint at the impact points
- Split miters and end caps knocked loose
- Crushed elbows and bent downspout straps
Dents as a record of hail size
Dent diameter roughly tracks hailstone size, which is why we measure dents rather than just photographing them. We lay a tape or scale across representative dents on each elevation, note the spacing and direction of the hits, and photograph the same spots wide and close so the location is clear.
Hail rarely hits every side of a house the same. Wind drives it from one direction, so the windward gutters and downspouts take more damage. Recording each side separately gives a clearer picture than a few close-ups from the worst corner.
Documenting the damage for your insurer
We provide the photos, measurements, run lengths and a description of the gutter system: profile, size, gauge where we can measure it, and downspout count. That is the information an adjuster typically asks for when assessing gutters, and having it organized can save you a second trip up a ladder.
We do not file claims, negotiate with adjusters, or tell you what your policy covers. Coverage, deductibles and depreciation are between you and your carrier. Our guide to documenting hail damage explains what to gather yourself before you call your insurer.
Replace, repair or leave it
Not every dented gutter needs replacing. A run with shallow cosmetic pocks, sound seams and good slope still drains correctly. Cracked seams, a flattened profile, failed hangers or crushed downspouts are functional damage, and patching dented aluminum does not restore its shape.
When we replace, the old runs come down, the fascia gets checked, and new seamless gutters are formed on site to length. Many homeowners use the replacement to move up to heavier .032 coil, or to steel gutters where dent resistance matters most. If the roof is also being replaced, coordinating with a detach and reset plan avoids hanging new gutters twice.
Scheduling after a big storm
Large hail events fill calendars fast across the metro. Call us soon after the storm so we can document the damage while it is fresh and before any temporary fixes change what an adjuster sees. Replacement then follows your claim decision and our crew schedule.
If a hailstorm also brought wind that tore a gutter loose or left a section hanging, that becomes a safety repair first. Our storm damage repair work covers making the house safe before documentation and replacement.
What to look for
Signs of hail damage on gutters
Dents on downspout faces
Rows of round dents on the flat front of downspouts are often the easiest hail marks to spot from the ground after a storm.
Wavy gutter face
A gutter front that catches light unevenly, with shadows across the curve, has been hit hard enough to deform the profile.
Paint chipped at impacts
Small bright spots of bare aluminum where paint flaked off show fresh impact points even when the dents themselves are shallow.
New leaks at corners
Miters and end caps that start dripping after a storm may have cracked their sealant or split their seams from the impacts.
Water holding in dents
Dents along the bottom of the trough form pockets that hold water and grit, interrupting the slope toward the outlet.
Hail marks on nearby metal
Dented mailboxes, window wraps, vents or air conditioner fins nearby suggest the gutters took similar hits worth checking up close.
How the job goes
Our hail damage process
- 1
Inspect every elevation
We walk each side of the house, check gutters and downspouts up close, and note which faces took the most hits based on wind direction during the storm.
- 2
Measure and photograph
We measure representative dents, photograph them wide and close with a scale, and record run lengths, gutter size, profile and downspout count.
- 3
Hand you the record
You receive the photos and notes to share with your insurer. Any claim decision and coverage question stays between you and your carrier.
- 4
Tear off and check fascia
On replacement day the damaged runs come down and get hauled away. We probe the fascia and fix any soft wood before new gutters go up.
- 5
Form and hang new runs
New seamless gutters are rolled out on site to exact lengths, hung on hidden hangers with correct pitch and finished with new downspouts.

Omaha conditions
Hail country, right outside the door
Nebraska ranked first in the nation for hail risk in a 2025 analysis of NOAA and FEMA data. Omaha saw 88 hail reports within about 10 miles of the city in 2024 alone, including a June storm that dropped stones of 3 to 3.5 inches in Papillion and La Vista.
The pattern continued in 2025, when hail about 3 inches across fell on Ralston and golf ball sized stones hit Omaha and Council Bluffs the same April afternoon. Gutters across the metro carry the marks of more than one storm, which is why we record each side of the house carefully before anything is replaced.

FAQ
Hail Damage Gutter Replacement questions
Can you tell how big the hail was from gutter dents?
Approximately. Dent diameter gives a reasonable indication of stone size, though wind angle and the spot where a stone strikes affect the mark. We measure several representative dents on each side of the house rather than relying on one. Adjusters often use the same approach, along with weather reports for the date of the storm.
Do you deal with my insurance company for me?
No. We document the gutter damage and give you photos, measurements and a description of the system to share with your insurer. Filing the claim, talking with the adjuster and deciding what to accept are yours to handle. We do not represent homeowners in claims and do not make any promise about whether a claim will be approved.
Should I replace dented gutters if they still drain?
That depends on the dents. Shallow cosmetic pocks on a run that still drains, with sound seams and hangers, may not need replacing. Dents that crease the bottom, flatten the profile, crack seams or hold water are functional damage. We will show you which kind you have before you decide.
Are steel gutters worth it in a hail-prone area?
Steel resists denting better than aluminum, which is why some homeowners in hail-heavy parts of the metro choose it when replacing. It is heavier and costs more, and cut edges need attention to prevent rust. Heavier .032 aluminum is a middle option. We can walk through the tradeoffs on the day we document the damage.
How soon after a hailstorm should I have gutters checked?
Soon, while the damage is fresh and before debris, ice or temporary fixes change what is visible. Many policies also have time limits for reporting storm damage, so check yours. If water is overflowing badly or a section is loose, call us right away so we can make it safe while you sort out the claim.
