Quick answer
Around Standing Bear we install micro-mesh and other gutter guards, clean high two-story gutters safely, and replace undersized builder gutters that overflow in heavy storms. We check valleys, garage-to-wall corners and downspout sizes on every visit. Crews come from our Omaha office and cover the northwest side regularly. Call us to set up a visit.
Most of the houses near Standing Bear Lake went up in the late 1990s and early 2000s, as Omaha pushed northwest. The lake came first: it opened in 1977 as a Papillion Creek flood control reservoir, about 135 acres of water inside a 685 acre park. The subdivisions filled in around it over the following years.
That timing matters for gutters. Many of these homes are on their original builder-installed system, now more than twenty years old, and the first round of hangers, sealant and paint is wearing out at about the same time on every house. At the same time, owners are tired of ladders on two-story eaves, which is why gutter guards come up on almost every call here.
Two-story roofs with a lot going on
The common house here has an open plan inside and a double garage out front, and that shows up on the roof as a long garage roof meeting a taller wall, several gables, and valleys feeding the front gutters. Builders usually hung standard five inch K-style gutters with 2x3 downspouts across the whole house. That works on simple runs, but a valley dropping two roof planes into one corner overwhelms it in a summer downpour.
Where the garage roof butts into a two-story wall, look for the small metal kick-out that should send water into the gutter. If it is missing, water runs down the wall behind the siding. We add kick-out flashing there, size up overflowing runs to six inch with 3x4 downspouts, and leave the simple runs alone if they are sound.
Open ground, fluff and spring storms
Newer subdivisions have younger yard trees, but that does not keep gutters clean. Cottonwood fluff, which Nebraska's state tree releases in late spring, drifts long distances across open ground and mats inside gutters and downspouts. Add shingle grit from roofs that are now twenty-some years old, and even a house with no tree nearby can clog by summer.
Hail is the other big factor. Omaha logged far more hail reports in 2024 than in any recent year, and two-story homes with long, exposed runs take hits along their full length. Dented gutters still carry water, but crushed downspouts and bent outlets do not.

What we do most around Standing Bear
Micro-Mesh Gutter Guards
Fine stainless mesh blocks cottonwood fluff and the shingle grit washing off twenty-year-old roofs, and it cuts down the number of times anyone has to climb a two-story eave.

High eaves on these homes make cleaning a job for proper ladders and roof access. We clear every run, flush downspouts and photograph hangers and seams as we go.
More on this service6-Inch Seamless Gutters
Front valleys and long rear roof planes overflow standard five inch gutters in heavy rain. Wider troughs with 3x4 downspouts carry that water without spilling over the lip.

Garage roofs that meet a two-story wall need a kick-out to steer water into the gutter. Without it, water runs behind the siding and stains or rots the wall.

Long exposed runs on these houses take hail along their full length. We photograph and measure dents for your insurer, then replace damaged gutters and downspouts.

A visit after the late spring fluff and another in fall keeps high gutters clear without you tracking the calendar or setting up a ladder on a tall wall.

Getting oriented around the lake
The park entrance is at 6404 North 132nd Street, and a rehab finished in late 2023 added fish habitat, a wider boat ramp and a separate kayak launch. Subdivisions spread out from the park in every direction. Elkhorn lies to the southwest, and Bennington sits a few miles north. We schedule this side of Omaha together with those areas.

FAQ
Gutter questions from Standing Bear
Are gutter guards worth it on a Standing Bear area home without big trees?
Often, yes. Cottonwood fluff blows in from well beyond your lot, and older roofs shed grit that settles in gutters and downspouts. On a two-story house, guards mostly save on climbing and on missed cleanings. Micro-mesh handles fluff and grit best. If your trees are young and your roof is new, a cleaning plan may be enough for now.
My builder gutters overflow at the front valley. Do I need a whole new system?
Usually not. Overflow at one valley often comes down to that run being too small for the water it collects. We can replace just that section with six inch gutter, add a 3x4 downspout, or fit a valley splash guard at the inside corner, and leave the rest of the system in place if it is sound.
Why is there a water stain on the wall where my garage roof meets the house?
That corner probably lacks a kick-out flashing. Water running down the roof edge flows along the wall instead of into the gutter and gets behind the siding. A small metal kick-out installed at the bottom of the roof-to-wall joint redirects it. If the stain is old, the sheathing behind may need checking during the repair.
How high can your crew safely clean gutters on a northwest Omaha two-story?
Standard two-story eaves are routine for us, with ladders sized and set properly and stabilizers that keep weight off the gutter. Where a garage or porch roof offers safe footing, we work from the roof. Very steep pitches or three-story walls may need a different setup, and we will say so when you call.
