Quick answer

In La Vista we replace worn and hail-damaged gutters, upgrade downspouts and clean gutters on regular schedules. Replacements on these compact homes usually finish in a single day, with fascia checked and repaired as needed. Our crews come from the Omaha office, a short drive north. Call us to set up a time.

La Vista was incorporated on February 23, 1960, after a developer laid out 335 homes at a price that ended in a long row of nines. Locals still call them the House of Nines. The city has grown well past that first subdivision, to about 16,700 residents in Sarpy County by 2020, but those early streets still shape a lot of our work here.

A house built in 1960 has seen its original gutters come and go, and often the replacements too. When we replace gutters in La Vista, we are usually taking down a system that was added in pieces and putting up one continuous run per side, with outlets placed where the roof actually sends water.

The original houses and what came after

The first La Vista homes were built to be affordable, and their roofs reflect that: simple gables, modest overhangs and short runs. Gutters on these houses do not need to be large, but they do need to be pitched correctly and hung on fascia that is still sound. After sixty-odd years, the fascia is where we find the most trouble, especially behind runs that overflowed for years before anyone noticed.

Later neighborhoods in La Vista brought bigger ranches and two-story homes with longer runs and more roof area per downspout. On those, the standard five inch K-style profile is usually right, with an added downspout on any run that collects from a big rear roof plane. We match coil color to the trim so a new system does not stand out against the house.

Sarpy County hail and summer storms

On June 25, 2024, hail reports of 3 to 3.5 inches came out of Papillion and La Vista, among the largest stones recorded in the metro that year. Hail that size punches through thin aluminum, flattens downspouts and can tear end caps loose. Earlier that spring, on April 26, Papillion saw stones around 2 inches during the tornado outbreak that swept the area.

Between storms, La Vista gutters fill with leaves from mature yard trees on the older streets and with cottonwood fluff each late spring. Cleaning twice a year is the minimum Nebraska Extension suggests, and the older, shadier blocks usually need it more often.

Fascia Board Replacement

Sixty years behind overflowing gutters leaves soft fascia on many original houses. We replace rotted sections first so new hangers drive into solid wood.

Steel Gutters

After repeated large hail, some owners choose Galvalume steel for its dent resistance. We adjust hanger spacing for the extra weight and seal cut ends to slow rust.

Downspout Installation

Later two-story homes often have too few downspouts for their roof area. Adding a 3x4 downspout on long runs keeps water from spilling over the front during summer storms.

FAQ

Gutter questions from La Vista

Do the original House of Nines homes in La Vista need special gutters?

No special profile, just attention to the basics. These homes have short, simple runs, so standard five inch seamless gutters with 2x3 or 3x4 downspouts handle them well. The bigger concerns are the age of the fascia, correct pitch on each run, and downspouts that discharge away from the foundation rather than beside it.

Should La Vista homeowners upgrade gutters after the 2024 hail?

If your gutters were damaged in the June 2024 storm and were not replaced, it is worth having them checked. Dented gutters may still carry water, but crushed downspouts and torn caps often fail in the next heavy rain. If you are replacing anyway, heavier gauge aluminum or steel offers more dent resistance than thin builder coil.

How long does a gutter replacement take on a La Vista house?

Most single family homes here are done in a day, sometimes less for the smaller original houses. That includes taking down the old system, checking and replacing any soft fascia, forming new seamless runs on site and hanging new downspouts. Larger two-story homes or extensive fascia repairs can stretch into a second day.

Can you match new gutter color to my La Vista trim?

Yes. Aluminum coil comes in many colors, and we bring samples to compare against your trim, siding and roof. Most owners match the trim, though some match the siding so the gutter blends in. On a partial replacement after hail, we try to find the closest match to the remaining runs. See our price guide for typical costs.
