Seamless Gutters and Downspouts in Fremont, NE 68025

Fremont sits on flat ground in the Platte River valley, so roof water does not run off on its own. Gutters here only do half the job unless the downspouts carry that water well clear of the house.

Quick answer

In Fremont we install seamless gutters, add and upsize downspouts, run extensions and buried drain lines, and clean or replace aging systems on older homes. The focus is getting water off the roof and away from basements on level lots. Our crews come from the Omaha office, and you can call us any time.

Fremont was laid out in 1856 along the Platte River, about 35 miles northwest of Omaha, and named for the explorer John C. Fremont. Today it is the Dodge County seat, the sixth largest city in Nebraska with about 27,000 residents in 2020, and home to Midland University.

The ground the town was built on is the defining fact for gutters. Across much of Fremont, a yard drops only a little from the house to the street, and water dumped at the foundation simply sits there. We spend as much time talking about where water goes after it leaves the downspout as we do about the gutter itself.

Older neighborhoods, college blocks and newer edges

The streets around downtown and near the university hold older two-story homes and bungalows, many of them now rentals, with gutters that are often sectional, patched and hung on tired fascia. These houses commonly have only two or three downspouts for the whole roof, each emptying a few inches from a basement wall.

Postwar ranches and newer homes toward the edges of town have better layouts but similar habits: short splash blocks, downspouts ending at window wells and buried lines nobody has flushed. Fixing those discharge points is usually the cheapest way to keep a Fremont basement dry, and it pairs well with added downspouts on runs that overflow.

Flat river ground and heavy late spring rain

Dodge County is shaped by water. The Elkhorn River crosses the county and joins the Platte, which forms the southern boundary. On level valley ground like this, the soil around a house stays wet longer after a storm, so every gallon moved away from the foundation helps.

Late spring and summer bring the heaviest rain. In Omaha, May is the wettest month at about 4.66 inches on average, with June and August close behind, and Fremont sits under the same storm systems. Nebraska Extension recommends discharging downspouts at least 5 feet from the foundation. On a level lot we often go farther, or take the water underground to a spot where it can spread out.

What Fremont homes need from their gutters

Downspout Extensions

On flat lots a short splash block leaves water against the wall. Extensions that reach well past the backfill, and fold up for mowing, are the simplest fix for a damp basement.

Underground Downspout Drains

Where the yard is too level for surface runoff, solid pipe with a steady fall carries water to a pop-up emitter or toward the street side of the lot.

Downspout Installation

Older Fremont homes often drain a whole roof through two or three downspouts. Adding 3x4 downspouts where the roof actually drains cuts overflow at the corners.

Gutter Replacement

Patched sectional gutters on older homes near downtown leak at every joint. A new seamless system with matched downspouts is the long-term answer for those houses.

Leaking Gutter Repair

When a newer system has one bad miter or a dripping outlet, resealing and re-riveting it is quicker and cheaper than replacing gutters that are otherwise sound.

FAQ

Gutter questions from Fremont

Why does water collect near my foundation in Fremont even with gutters?

Gutters catch the water, but on flat Platte valley lots the downspouts decide where it ends up. A short splash block or an elbow pointed at a window well leaves water right against the wall. Extending each downspout well past the backfill, or burying a line to a pop-up emitter, moves that water to ground where it can soak in away from the basement.

How many downspouts should an older Fremont two-story have?

It depends on roof area and how the roof is split, but one downspout for about every 30 to 40 feet of gutter is a common guide, with more where valleys pour into a run. Many older Fremont homes have far fewer. Adding outlets and using 3x4 downspouts on the busiest corners stops overflow better than cleaning alone. Our price guide lists typical costs.

Can buried downspout lines work in Fremont's flat yards?

Yes, if they are laid with a steady fall, even a gentle one, and end where water can escape. We use solid pipe rather than thin corrugated tube, add a cleanout, and finish at a pop-up emitter or daylight outlet lower than the starting point. Lines must never tie into a sanitary sewer, and we call 811 before any digging.

Do you work on gutters for rentals near Midland University in Fremont?

Yes. Landlords often want simple, durable gutters, the same color across several buildings and a cleaning routine they do not have to manage. We handle duplexes, small apartment buildings and single-family rentals, and we can set up spring and fall visits so tenants are not the first to notice overflowing gutters.
