Gutter Installation and Repair in Valley, NE 68064

Valley sits on flat Platte River bottom ground in western Douglas County. When roof water lands beside a foundation here, it has nowhere quick to go, so every downspout outlet deserves a plan.

Quick answer

We install new seamless gutters in Valley and repair the ones already up: loose runs, leaking corners, flat spots that hold water and downspouts that empty against the house. Crews come out from our Omaha office, form each gutter on site and route discharge across level lots so it drains away instead of soaking in. Call us any hour.

Valley was laid out in 1864 by people betting the Union Pacific would come through, and it took its name from the Platte River valley it sits in. The railroad came, the town stayed small, and in the 2020 Census it counted 3,037 residents. It is also where the National Weather Service runs the office that forecasts for eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa.

That last fact gets a nod from every crew we send out here. The people who issue the region's severe storm warnings work a few minutes from your roof. For a gutter installer, it is a reminder that Valley gets the same hail, wind and cloudbursts as the rest of the metro, on ground that drains slower than most of it.

Old town lots, newer streets and lake homes

The older blocks near the center of town have story-and-a-half houses, small ranches and detached garages, many of them wearing sectional aluminum that was pieced together at the corners long ago. Those joints are what fail first. Sealant shrinks, the miters start to drip, and the drip lands right at the foundation line. On these homes we usually replace rather than patch, forming one piece per eave and cutting outlets where the yard can actually take the water.

Newer houses on the edges of town and around the lake developments are larger, with attached three-stall garages and long rooflines. Builders often finished them with 5 inch gutters and too few 2x3 downspouts. On a level lot that shows up as overflow at the far end of a run in a June storm and a splash line in the mulch. Adding a downspout or going to wider gutters fixes the roof side; the ground side is the next question.

Floodplain ground and what it asks of a downspout

In March 2019 the Union Dike on the Platte broke about 7.5 miles north of town, and water rose into Valley basements before the breach was closed. Gutters had nothing to do with that flood, but it taught a lot of homeowners how high the water table can sit here. When the soil is already wet, a downspout that dumps beside the wall adds water exactly where you least want it.

Nebraska Extension recommends discharging downspouts at least 5 feet from the foundation, and on flat bottom ground we often go farther, with buried solid pipe running to a low point in the yard. Cottonwoods along the river and in older yards add another load each late spring, when their seed fluff drifts in and mats inside open gutters and elbows.

The work Valley homes call for

Underground Downspout Drains

On level ground near the Platte, burying solid pipe from each downspout to a pop-up emitter or daylight outlet moves roof water well past the foundation without a hose-like extension across the lawn.

Downspout Extensions

Where digging is not practical, hinged extensions that flip up for mowing still carry water past the 5 foot mark and keep window wells from filling in a hard rain.

Gutter Replacement

Older sectional systems on in-town homes leak at every joint. Tearing them off lets us check the fascia, then hang one-piece runs with outlets placed for the yard.

Gutter Re-Pitching

Runs that hold water for days after a storm usually lost their slope as hangers loosened. We re-hang to a string line so water heads to the outlets.

Storm Damage Gutter Repair

Wind off open river bottom ground can twist a run off the fascia. We make it safe first, then repair or replace the damaged section.

Downspout Unclogging

Cottonwood fluff packs elbows tight in late spring. Flushing and clearing them before summer storms keeps water from pouring over the front of the gutter.

Where Valley sits

Valley lies on the west edge of Douglas County where the Elkhorn and Platte bottoms open out, with Waterloo just to the east and the Saunders County line across the Platte to the south. Crews reach town from our downtown Omaha office by heading west past Elkhorn, and the same trip continues northwest to Fremont along the river.

FAQ

Gutter questions from Valley

After the 2019 Platte flooding, how far should my Valley downspouts discharge?

Five feet from the foundation is the minimum Nebraska Extension suggests, and on flat ground near the river we like more. Where the yard has a low corner or a ditch, a buried solid line to a pop-up emitter there works well. Where it does not, a long hinged extension still beats a splash block. Gutters cannot stop river flooding, but they can stop adding roof water to already wet soil.

My Valley gutter overflows at the far end even though it is clean. Why?

Usually the run is too long for one outlet or the slope has drifted flat. A 40 to 50 foot eave on a newer house often needs a downspout at each end, or a center outlet with the gutter pitched both ways. We check the slope with a level and string line, then add an outlet or re-hang. See downspout installation for how we place them.

Do you come out to Valley for a single repair, or only full installs?

Small jobs are fine. A sagging run over the garage, one dripping corner or a downspout that blew loose are all regular calls for us in western Douglas County. We will tell you plainly if a repair is worth doing or if the system is too far gone. Our price guide shows typical ranges for common repairs.

Should Valley lake homes get gutter guards for cottonwood fluff?

If cottonwoods stand over or upwind of the roof, guards are worth a look. Fluff floats and mats on top of coarse screens, so fine stainless micro-mesh does better, though it still needs an occasional brushing in early summer. Homes with no big trees nearby often do fine with a spring and fall cleaning instead. We will tell you which way fits your lot after looking at it.
